Dell Alienware launch new, faster processors

The Alienware division of Dell, Inc. has revealed some new processor options to go along with last weeks new GPU options. Unsurprisingly the newly added options all come from Intel who recently launched their new Ivy Bridge family of 22nm processors. The options for the Alienware laptops range from a simple 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core chip all the way up to a $1k+ Intel Core i7 quad-core Extreme Edition chip capable of up to 3.8 GHz processing speeds.
Dell Alienware Ivy Bridge

Currently the only Alienware gaming notebooks eligible for these new processors include the 14-inch Alienware M14x, the 17.3-inch Alienware M17x, and the 18.4-inch Alienware M18x. The recently discontinued 11.6-inch Alienware M11x, despite being listed on the Dell Alienware website, isn’t receiving Ivy Bridge processors or any new hardware at all.
Price wise the new processors haven’t done much for the price of Alienware gaming notebooks, they’re still expensive. The base price for the M14x is $1,099 and you get a 2.5GHz Core i5 dual-core processor, the M17x starts at $1,499 and you get a 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU, and the M18x starts at $1,999 with the same 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU that the base M17x has –the M18x also comes standard with a 1080p display while the M17x has a 900p display in the standard model.

Below you can see all the processors that Dell Alienware has made available at this time, all of them are quad-core Core i7 chips except for the one Core i5 dual-core chip:

Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B Notebook PC Review Spec

Measuring 1.5 by 14.6 by 9.8 inches and consideration 5.2 pounds, the Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B is incased in evil impressible, with a beautiful diamond-embossed figure on the lid and region quietus that nevertheless picked up a few fingerbreadth smudges on our judge unit. If you don't same the dark keyboard, our attempt object came with a organization polymer keyboard pare that enhanced stream and crumb resistivity without subtracting from the keyboard's slightly squashy yet comfortable typewriting comprehend. There's a full-sized numeric keypad with dedicated Place, End, PgUp, and PgDn keys (tho' they, the answer and Remove keys, and the indicator arrows are slightly small than the symmetrical keys), and a medium-sized touchpad with a nicely rough articulator and clicky

The door resolution is the boilerplate 1,366-by-768 you'll hear on most separate 15- (and 14- and 13-inch) laptops-for this price, you shouldn't look the 1,920 by 1,080 of Sony's 4.4-pound VAIO VPC-SE23FX/S ($999 forthright, 4 stars) or the HP Rancor 15 (2012) ($1,249.99 outspoken, 4 stars). That's sufficiency for vigil 720p videos from the Web; you can't timepiece them from a Blu-ray circle because the VPC-EH35FM/B has a DVD±RW swing. The door is lucid and glistening, with adequate vigil angles and pure flag (and no, our eyes couldn't see the conflict between the Sony's 15.5- and competitors' 15.6-inch panels, and we bet yours can't either). Oftenness through the built-in speakers is fuck the WiMAX changeful broadband saved in our Editors' Selection Asus U56E-BBL6, nor the Bluetooth engineering victimized to sync a laptop and handheld. But it has two opposite wireless features: the old 802.11n Wi-Fi, which worked penalty in our surfriding and downloading tests, and Intel's Wireless Showing (WiDi) for moving the laptop's video and oftenness to an Television set seaworthy with a $100-or-so Belkin or Netgear device.

Sony VAIO VPCEH35FM/B
Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B
There are two memory-card slots on the Sony's beguiler bezel, one for SD cards and the new for the militia's Memory Thrust Pro Duo information. On the ripe face of the chassis are threesome USB 2.0 ports and the DVD journeying. On the leftmost are VGA, HDMI, and Ethernet ports; microphone and headphone jacks; and a fourth USB 2.0 port-we looked for the dirty connector or SS (Caretaker Fastness) label that designates a USB 3.0 porthole, but were thwarted.

By differ, only a grump could be frustrated that the VPC-EH35FM/B's 5,400-rpm granitelike swing is an ample 640GB instead of the justified more abundant 750GB of models suchlike the Lenovo IdeaPad Z570-10249ZU ($699.99 tip, 3.5 stars) and Asus K53SD-DS51 ($779.99 street, 3 stars). Sony preloads it with a Mac OS Dock-alike info launcher dubbed VAIO Gate, a duad of photo and recording managers, and a scanty 30-day affliction of Norton Internet Guarantee.
Sony VAIO VPCEH35FM/B
Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B
Sony backs the laptop with a one-year warranty with on-site or at-home run. Superfine Buy offers a option of two-year sprawled function plans: a $149.99 manage that covers native delapidate and hie, power surges, a single peer of a extinct battery, and "no maize" exchange of a method that's required quartet repairs; and a $269.99 project with the above quality discharge and move covering.

Action

Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B Armored with a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-2450M processor and 6GB of RAM, the Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B did rise in our fruitfulness benchmark tests. Its PCMark 7 performance slit of 2,400 edged that of the Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830TG-6614 ($779.99 list, 4 stars) (2,388) and Asus U56E-BBL6 (2,255).
Sony VAIO VPCEH35FM/B
Sony VAIO VPC-EH35FM/B
It knotted the Asus K53SD-DS51, based on the same CPU, in our Handbrake (1 distance 47 seconds) and Photoshop CS5 (3 transactions 55 seconds) multimedia tests. Exclusive on the graphics anterior did the Sony's Intel HD Graphics 3000 organic graphics prove no correspond for the Nvidia GeForce GT 540M of the Acer 5830TG-6614: The latter posted 58 and 39 frames per gear respectively in Crysis and Wasted Follower 2 versus the VAIO's 19 fps in apiece.

The Sony's 44Wh shelling proved a discourtesy dissatisfaction, dropping just momentaneous of the five-hour gospel that we speculate a impartial lead for a screen compeer system (4 hours 53 proceedings). By differ, the Asus U56E-BBL6 lasted 7 hours 42 proceedings and the Acer 5830TG-6614 a brimfull figure hours.

Still, before we objection too untold nigh its shelling story or that nonexistent USB 3.0 embrasure, it's worth remembering that the VPC-EH35FM/B is priced $100 or more below most of its competitors. At $629.99, it's a valuable alternative to our Editors' Pick Asus U56E-BBL6 and opposite top regard contenders.

Asus G74SX-A2 Notebook PC Review Spec

There is nothing small about Asus G74SX-A2, from its large 17-inch (2.4 to 16.5 by 12.8 inches, HWD) with its oversized keyboards. It weighs 9.7 kg is tied with other gaming laptops that Alienware M17x 9.8 pounds (Sandy Bridge), but most frantic £ 13.3 AVADirect Clevo X7200 ($ 4,957.64 direct, 3.5 stars). Yet the G74SX-A2 is not built for portability without changing its resting place in your home. Gaming laptops are available with most portable Alienware M11x series. There is a strong hinge along the back edge of G74SX-A2, which gives a more stable base than most laptops.

Asus G74SX-A2
Asus G74SX-A2
The Asus has a thick wedge profile that puts the keyboard and palm rest with five degree slope much more comfortable than flat models is the Alienware M17x (Sandy Bridge) and AVADirect Clevo X7200. The keyboard is large with great style Chiclet keys and more than an inch of separation between the keyboard and numeric keypad, full size, the button with four arrows between the two. The keyboard also has large buttons and control changes, which makes it very easy to use a macro or a keyboard shortcut not accidentally hit the wrong button. The keys are framed in brushed aluminum, which is cold to the touch, and combined with other soft-touch palm rubber for a comfortable, even during long gaming sessions. Asus full of a mouse with our review unit, which has a button to switch between different DPI settings (mouse sensitivity) and integrated front / back thumb buttons.

The wired USB mouse has a soft rubber coating for the same cover and palm rest of G74SX-A2, and faint blue accent lighting inside the mouse. If the mouse is not available, the extra large multitouch trackpad is also good if you can scroll, zoom and rotate with two fingers. Mouse buttons left and right are quiet and gentle, with the same soft-touch coating as the rest of the palm rest.

The 17.3-inch screen is fantastic and shows in a 1920 x 1080 resolution. This high-definition widescreen display is ideal for film, and thanks to Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics card, you will be able to raise the dressing every game you play without missing a pixel. Blu-ray (Blu-ray / DVD + / - RW) drives also means that you can enjoy movies in full 1080p hard drive as well. A combination of THX TruStudio and EAX Advanced HD 5.0 audio creates one of the best sound set-up you'll find on a laptop, with particularly rich bass. The only problem we ran into while testing the laptop were a few whistles speaker very soft, which was more pronounced at high volumes, a problem we found in another model recently tested the line of play Asus G74SX -BBK7 ($ 1,199 list, 3.5 stars).

Whenever you find a laptop uses powerful components like this, things get hot. Asus has addressed this problem with a combination of strategies to maintain the cooling system. Two large openings running along the back of the laptop, with a lot of air in and out, aim and blow air (and accompanying noise) of the user. Two large fans to cool the processor and graphics card, and each operates independently, so that fans are used only when cooling is required. They are also quiet, even during the execution of the test kits that other systems to vibrate and hum of the fans at full speed, the G74SX-A2 remained calm and cool.

At the bottom of the unit, you will see that Asus has gone out of their way to make simple updates to your update panel easy access to the RAM slots and disk. You do not need a jeweler's screwdriver to open this panel, as it is secured by a locking screw that can only be opened with a coin.

Characteristic

Journal of games are built for intimidation as much as the performance and functionality of the Asus-A2 G74SX certainly not her. A2-packs G74SX two hard drives: a fast 160 GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and over 750 GB 7200 rpm hard drive spinning. This double drive set up provides better performance in the programs stored on the SSD, but retains the large storage space offered by a traditional hard drive, the AVADirect Clevo X7200 used a similar double disk drive. But the total storage capacity of 910GB is not enough to top the player is 1.5 TB Alienware M17x, but it is bigger than the Asus drive is in G73SW-BST6 ($ 1299.99 list, 3.5 stars), which is equipped with a 750 GB hard drive alone.

The Asus G74SX-A2 offers a variety of ports and connectors on both sides of the laptop. To the right is a Gigabit Ethernet port, HDMI and VGA video outputs and a card reader that supports multiple memory formats (SD, MMC, MS / Pro). A USB 3.0 high-speed data transfer, and USB 2.0 is also available for connecting other devices that do not require 3.0 speed. On the left side, two USB 2.0 ports and a Kensington slot and headphone jacks and a microphone. Internally, the Asus G74SX-A2 is equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 (for wireless).

The G74SX-A2 comes with its share of bloatware, and it does not stop with applications such as Microsoft Office 2010 Starter or a 30-day trial of Trend Micro Internet Security titanium. The system also comes preloaded with the Google Chrome browser, Google and Bing toolbars for Internet Explorer and Nuance PDF Reader. In addition, ASUS offers several programs and tools that bears the name Asus, Asus as Web storage, Asus and Vibe Fun Center, which offers a music player, several simple games, and even some language courses.

Performance

The Asus G74SX-A2 is equipped with a quad-core 2 GHz Intel Core i7-2630QM processor. It's the same CPU used in the Republic of Asus players from other systems, such as Asus G73SW-and-G74SX BST6 BBK7, but combined with 16 GB of RAM and a hybrid super fast SSD / 7200 rpm hard turn for faster performance. In our PCMark 7, he scored 3941 points in a big jump after 2569 marked by G74SX-BBK7.

In our Cinebench R11.5 representation, which serves as a benchmark for processor speed, Asus has scored 5.04, matching all gaming laptops in the competition, except for the Alienware M17x, which scored 0.36 higher due to its 2.2 GHz processor and a little faster. He also held its own proof of the creation of media and the handbrake (1:38) and Photoshop CS5 (03:58). Users who want to expand beyond the pure play is that the Asus G74SX-A2 is equipped to handle anything you throw at it.

The real value of G74SX-A2 is, however, the games, and does not disappoint. Equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M GPU (3GB), G74SX-A2 is a lot of muscles flexible. Our point of general reference graphics, 3DMark 2006, was placed in 16 970 points resolution and medium settings, and 12 135 at 1080p and anti-aliasing settings. And 'complementary to the previous Asus gaming platforms, but fell short of Choice Editors' Alienware m17x for (20 097 15 845 medium and high) and a dual-GPU hex-core AVADirect Clevo X7200 (22,559 medium and 19 top 421). Applied real games, the Asus G74SX-A2, went through the test with ease. In Crysis (DirectX 10), is pumped to 81.9 frames per second (fps) in medium and 13.2 frames per second settings up to 1080p. Lost Planet 2 (DirectX 9), Asus G74SX-A2, produced 82.5fps frame rate settings in the medium and native resolution 30.6.

With scores like these, you must be prepared no matter the game you'll play as long as you keep the high-end games on medium settings.

Although most of the platforms of high-performance games will remain connected to an electrical outlet every time you use the Asus G74SX-A2 always provides decent battery life. In our MobileMark 2007 benchmark life of the battery of tests, the G74SX-A2 74Wh 8-cell battery lasted 2 hours and 59 minutes. The unique approach or spend 3 hours spring G73SW BST6 Asus, who managed 3:31 with a 75Wh battery. The Alienware M17x only lasted 2:24 with a huge battery 90Wh AVADirect Clevo X7200 and even one hour (38 minutes) with 78Wh battery. The Asus G74SX-A2 can not lead through a cross-country flight, but survive major gaming platforms over the other party if the LAN is injured with a minor.

Asus G74SX-A2, brings a lot of player-friendly products for the table, and two spacious as a quick installation disc, made-for-gamers keyboard and processor and graphics card, which takes care of everything you want to play the game. Although it is not necessarily involved in the hex-core processor, as found in the AVADirect Clevo X7200, Asus G74SX-A2, however, should satisfy most players, and go a little 'easier on your wallet. If you have an extra $ 254 on hand, Editors Choice 'for the Alienware M17x (Sandy Bridge) offers the best price-performance ratio. Otherwise, the Asus G74SX-BBK7 to pay $ 700 less and offers up the same gaming performance, but it is not possible without sacrificing some of the components of the future.

Fujitsu LifeBook AH550 Notebook PC Review Spec

The LifeBook AH550 is a portable 15.6-inch desktop replacement Fujitsu. With a starting price of $ 749, the AH550 has an Intel Core i3-330M, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hard drive. Configurations with more dedicated NVIDIA graphics card are also available with a premium of $ 200. In this review, we see the LifeBook AH550 compared with other 15-inch desktop replacement and if it is worthy of your next purchase.

Fujitsu LifeBook AH550
Fujitsu LifeBook AH550
Design and build

Fujitsu LifeBook AH550 is a class, inside and black metallic finish with chrome. The screen lid with the Fujitsu logo, and before the center, and the name of the company and a small logo on the top edge. Inside, by bezel palmrest, keyboard and screen of the same metallic finish trim black with chrome around the touch pad and along the front edge. If all the stickers were removed from the body of the laptop Lifebook AH550 I think is one of the smartest laptop around to see.

Build quality is average compared to other generation of consumer notebooks and small size. Billboards, including the palm and the screen cover, some bending, but nothing that stands out. Palm, the optical drive is more than some people give. Taken a laptop around, the place is flexible upwards from the bottom and inside the cavity with no optical drive. The paint finish is of excellent quality holds up admirably free of scratches and scuffs. Everything, even the Palm is an opaque plastic, which is very glossy black finish and also helps to hide the abuse newspaper. Like most of Fujitsu notebooks, this model also offers a removable filter air to the bottom.

Fujitsu provides users with easy access to the hard drive and system memory, the two panels on the bottom of a laptop. One area that may be of concern is the future of fashion, where the battery is installed, the spring clips instead of plastic blocks. If a clip has never been broken or lost the thrill of the battery will no longer get stuck in the system.

Keyboard and Touchpad

LifeBook AH550 The keyboard has a very comfortable professional quality that is easy to type on and gives an excellent tactile response. Keyboard support is excellent, even more ruthless in the classification with the main task for the individual mechanisms. Key wobble just this biggest key was smooth despite the travel offset presses that can sometimes cause blockages. The keyboard is both full-size spill-resistant with a keypad. The provision was easy to get used to the difference in some models, the keyboard is not only the buttons on the main section of the keyboard.

For a multimedia notebook, we were surprised to see no dedicated multimedia keys or function keys repurposed of any kind. The only extra button on the laptop has been a key support next to the power button.

Touchpad with LifeBook AH550 is a medium-size model of ALPS some multitouch capabilities. The sensitivity was excellent, and we found only a small delay of extensive testing. A long, click and drag to move the touchpad sometimes uncheck dragging and we were stuck in a different symbol and move it. Adjusting the settings seemed to improve this problem, but we never had this problem, the Synaptics touchpad. Gestures are supported pan scroll, pinch, zoom and rotation. Along with the standard up and down the roll, it also supports the chiral (circular) scrolling action added to the occasion.

Screen and speakers

The AH550 has a choice of screen resolution integrated and dedicated graphic variants. Both systems include a backlit LED panel with a resolution of 1366x768 WXGA. These days, I wonder when the mid-range models do not offer a screen resolution of 1600x900 HD compatible, especially if multimedia oriented. The plaque itself with color and contrast of good average. The glossy screen surface helped to give the appearance of the color saturation of colors and improved black levels. Screen brightness was good to see in bright conditions for the position, but with an advanced level of illumination measured at 190 nits, it was not bright enough to see outdoors.

AH550 speakers are located above the keyboard and the sound less than the average compared to other multimedia-oriented notebooks. Low and medium volumes were up very weak inadequate even for small environments. Listening to music or talk to someone VOIP software, which work well, however, left much to be desired. Headphones or digital audio over HDMI would be better to listen to music.

Ports and Features

Fujitsu LifeBook AH550 offered a good selection of ports including four USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI-out, LAN and analog audio. Expansion slots includes a SDHC compatible card reader and ExpressCard/54 slot. The development of the port at the rear was crowded with three USB 2.0 ports, slots are located right next to each other. This configuration can block other ports if you have a large device to plug in.

Fujitsu M2010 Notebook PC Review Spec

The M2010 is a new netbook to hit the market for Fujitsu, which is their first Atom-based model to date. Looks good and offers a good quality of construction, it is marketed as a "mini laptop" designed for casual users who want a small platform for surfing the Web or check e-mail. In this test, we examine all aspects of the M2010, to help you know if this netbook is right for you.

From the beginning, Fujitsu made a nice netbook. M2010 is a great shiny metallic red paint and off the shiny piano black plastic around the top of the keyboard and screen. I truly believe that Fujitsu has taken a step back and think before they came up with the launch netbook in a saturated market ... and found some interesting ways to make it stand out. Whatever the approach we took, it worked.

Fujitsu M2010
Fujitsu M2010
Build quality is excellent, squeaks and creaks around the frame, and only minor flex large plastic surfaces. Even the screen hinges feel good with good power when the swivel screen and a very smooth action when moving. At the bottom of the notebook, we find the standard "We Fujitsu" in the location of the processor, which limits the amount of heat can be transferred in the legs when used on your lap. This is the norm in Fujitsu laptops I've ever seen.

Access to internal components is managed by a single panel at the bottom of the laptop, but it only allows you to replace the wireless card and system memory. The hard drive will require further removal of ... something the average user may not want to do. However, it was probably a bad choice, because the memory and storage is the only area of expansion and modernization for netbook users.

Fujitsu M2010
Fujitsu M2010
Screen and speakers

The glossy screen of the M2010 is very similar, as is the case with many netbook LED-backlit display. The colors are rich and vibrant, with excellent contrast and deep blacks. Maximum levels of brightness have been great to see in bright light conditions of the office, with the right configuration preferred by 50%. Check the angle on average, with the colors start to invest 20 degrees forward or backward. Horizontal viewing angles were much better, extending to the screen bezel and reflection began to obstruct the view of the panel.

Average heart rate compared to a netbook speakers, and below average compared to most laptops. Peak volume levels were fine to listen to a small room, but do not have much power to fill the chamber wall. Bass and midrange were not only higher frequencies to come. Headphones should really enjoy music or movies.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard is the main area that I feel Fujitsu should have spent more time in development. Compared to almost every netbook on the market today, it is one of the smaller keyboard layout that feels very tight. As HP set the trend for one of the best laptop keyboards, manufacturers like ASUS has followed a similar path, expand the keyboard to make it as wide as possible to the chassis. Fujitsu holds a wide edge around the keyboard, much like the glossy red, but does not allow such a large writing surface. Despite the small size of the keyboard feels very good. The support is excellent, with just a hint of flex under heavy pressure to write. Individual key action is smooth, with very little swing key when you try to move top of the key around. Noise is minimal as you type, with a soft large not click when each key is pressed.

M2010 has a Synaptics touchpad with smaller smooth finish. During the tests, it was easy to use, without perceptible delay (a configuration of a few). Initially, we found the touchpad to the coast, after they put their fingers on the surface, he felt very similar to the touchpad lag. We found Synaptics feature called "Momentum" was used, and moving off again on the trackpad feels a lot nicer. The trackpad offers multi-touch features such as flick, pinch, and ChiralRotate, used to rotate the selected object 90 degrees. It is not an option for two finger scroll found. The touchpad buttons are setup button with the swing, which is flexible enough that the two buttons can be pressed simultaneously. Feedback is down is minimal, engaged in a strong shot.

Fujitsu M2010
Ports and Features

Port Selection M2010 is average compared to most of the netbook market, three USB ports, VGA, headphone / microphone and SDHC Multi-Card Reader, and the LAN. Fujitsu is also a Kensington lock slot if you feel that you need to securely connect the netbook and unattended.

Our Fujitsu M2010 has the following specifications:
